Here is a strange picture of a... of a... yes what is it - on the back of this Macrinus tetradrachm. Some say it's a horned lion with wings. But it only has two legs. Others say it is a griffin. But we don't know exactly. It doesn't really look like any animal. But there is also no similar statue that could be identified with it. Perhaps it will always remain a mystery.
