TuckHard Posted August 3, 2022 · Member Share Posted August 3, 2022 6 hours, here is a coin that I (barely) identified earlier today. it's actually pretty rare but the condition makes it pretty moot. This is definitely one of the worst condition coins I have ever ID'd. Private mint of Palembang, Sumatra c. 1635 to 1750 AD Issued anonymously and privately during the rule of the Palembang SultanateTin cash imitation | 0.68 grams | 19.5x20mm wideObv: Zhi Dao Yuan Bao clockwiseRev: BlankRef: Hartill A Guide to Cash Coins #3.61var, cf. Zeno #204884 Note: This coin copies its Chinese legend from the Zhi Dao Yuan Bao coins issued from 995-997 AD during the Northern Song Dynasty of China. These Chinese coins circulated for centuries in the region where they influenced imitations such as this coin Next: a hard to identify coin
Roman Collector Posted August 3, 2022 · Patron Share Posted August 3, 2022 (edited) I don't know if this matches the theme you intended, but I have a similar story. This is the most worn but still identifiable coin in my collection. The ID is made by recognizing the portrait as belonging to Julia Domna as she has a distinctive hairstyle. It also came down to knowing that corn ears and a long torch are attributes of Ceres. Julia Domna, AD 193-217. Roman Æ as, 13.49 g, 27.6 mm, 5 h. Rome, AD 198. Spaniard Posted August 3, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted August 3, 2022 @Kosmas...Not seen a description of this coin even on your main thread related to it?....I'm assuming there is a monogram somewhere? Bottom left on reverse? Also the idea of this thread is once you've posted your example, which has fulfilled the "next " request of the previous poster, you then ask for a particular criteria for the following post....Clear as mud yeh? So what's "next"??

TuckHard Posted August 3, 2022 · Member Share Posted August 3, 2022 Here is a failed kingdom-state from a failed rebel leader. He was a military general during the Ming Dynasty who allowed and assisted the neighboring Manchu people of Manchuria to invade and capture parts of China, eventually leading to the complete collapse of the Ming Court and the start of a quarter millennium of Manchu rule over China by the Qing Dynasty. He later tried to rebel against the Qing Court, making him a double-traitor.
