I had to go digging for these old photos but I got this cool Irish penny pretty early in on my collecting career and I've always cherished it. It's worth getting a better photo of sometime, that's for sure.

"an early addition to your collection"

This was one of my first two ancient coins

... yah, I bought a couple of cheapies at first, just to see what they were like ... ummm, and well, you coiners know the rest

=> ancient coins are very, VERY addictive!! (so many cool little sub-avenues, right? ... they're super fun to collect!)

Valentinian I, AE 19 mm
Minted AD 367--375

Obverse: D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG, diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right
Reverse: GLORIA ROMANORVM, emperor walking right, head left, dragging captive and holding labarum, TES B in exergue
Weight: 2.7 g
Diameter: 19 mm
Reference: RIC IX Thessalonica 16a

ancient23b.jpg

NEXT => A donkey, ass, or mule

Ummm, but after 2hours, then any animal coin, and/or any Valentinian-I coin is okay

... and yes, after 4 hours, then any ol' brown coin is good to go!!

Cheers

Well, sometimes it's really does look like "the head of an ass surmounted on a staff," but I also understand why people argue it is the head or dragon or wolf. None of mine have ever been clear enough to provide any indication one way or another (least of all the fourree!):

Trajan Decius / DACIA holding Draco (?) or staff with head of ass:

"another Gallic Empire ruler not just posted"

=> Victorinus ... sweet, I think I nailed it??

VICTORINUS SILVERED AE ANTONINIANUS

Colonia Agrippina (Köln) mint

Second half A.D. 269

Diameter: 15 mm

Weight: 3.3 grams

Obverse: IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG. Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right

Reverse: INVICTVS. Sol running left, holding whip, right hand raised, chlamys in two folds. Star in left field.
