I agree, Alec Guiness was an exceptional casting choice, and played the role wonderfully.

Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar. AE As. 151-152 AD. Struck under Antoninus Pius.

Obv: AVRELIVS CAESAR ANTONINI AVG PII FIL, bare head right.
Rev: TR POT VI COS II. VIR-TVS and S-C across fields. Virtus standing
left, foot on helmet, holding spear and parazonium (A parazonium is a long triangular dagger, wide at the hilt end and coming to a point. In Roman mythology, it is frequently carried by Virtus, particularly in early representations. It is also sometimes carried by Mars, Roma, or the emperor, giving them the aura of courage).

Antoninus Pius

ANPIRIC643B.png.30081a4c5685db5ff5958be2f4a3c3ae.png

Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius; Reign: Antoninus Pius; Mint: Rome; Date: 140/144 AD; Nominal: Sestertius; Material: AE Bronze; Diameter: 33mm; Weight: 25.01g; Reference: RIC III Antoninus Pius 643b; Obverse: Bust of Antoninus Pius, laureate, draped, right; Inscription: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P COS III; Translation: Antoninus Augustus Pius, Pater Patriae, Tribunicia Potestate, Consul Tertium; Translation: Antoninus Pius, emperor (Augustus) father of the nation, holder of tribunician power, consul for the third time; Reverse: Tiber, crowned with reeds, reclining left, resting left elbow on rock, from which water flows and resting right hand on forepart of boat, on left; in left hand, a reed; Inscription: TIBERIS S C; Translation: Tiberis. Senatus Consultum; Translation: Of Tiber. Decree of the senate.

Tiberinus (also Tiberinus pater) is the river god of the Tiber in Roman mythology. Tiberinus is actually an adjectival form and can be added to Tiberinus deus (“God Tiber”) or Tiberinus pater (“Father Tiber”). According to Servius, the river is called Tiberinus in a religious context, Tibris poetically and Tiberis in everyday life. The cult of Tiberinus is said to have been introduced by Romulus, but the name Tiberinus does not appear in connection with the very old festival of Volturnalia on the Tiber on August 27th. The feast of Tiberinus on December 8th is the founding festival of the god's sanctuary on a Tiber island. There was another sanctuary in Ostia. It is unclear whether the fishing festival (ludi piscatorii) celebrated on June 7th had any connection to the cult of Tiberinus. Tiberinus also appears at a central point in the founding myth of the city of Rome. In Virgil's Aeneid, Tiberinus speaks in a dream to Aeneas, who is sleeping on the bank of the river, and promises him that the city will be founded on the spot where he will find a wild sow with 30 offspring in the morning, and he tells him to meet with Euandros , the leader of a colony of Arcadians who had founded the city of Palatium (on what is now Palatine Hill) nearby. Virgil describes the river god wearing a grass cloak and carrying a wreath of reeds on his head. In Ovid, Tiberinus, also crowned with reeds, explains to the poet the origin of the Argei ritual, in which straw men were thrown into the river from the Pons Sublicius on the Ides of May. According to a recent tradition, the name of the river goes back to Tiberinus Silvius, king of Alba Longa, who fell into the river during a battle and drowned. Previously the river was said to have been called Albula. According to a story by Ennius, Ilia was sentenced to drown in the Tiber by Amulius, king of Alba Longa, because as a Vestal she had become the mother of Romulus and Remus. Ilia is identified with Rhea Silvia, but is considered the daughter of Aeneas and Lavinia. The river god saved Ilia from drowning and made the goddess his wife. He also saved the twins who were abandoned on the Tiber from drowning.
