I'm collecting some data, trying to understand some underweight hemihektes that are out there, midway between hemihektes and myshemihektes. Yours is not particularly underweight. Nice.
ela126 Posted September 20 · Member Share Posted September 20 (edited) Varina Museum has been selling a lot (10 a day for a few weeks now) of pretty nice shape Trachy’s on eBay. Some are going for a few dollars, others get bid up as high as mid 30’s. I got this Isaac II, SB 2003, with a pretty respectable obverse. All in with shipping, $20. If you’re interested, grab one now, I believe he’s still actively posting them. Edited September 20 by ela126

I don't think for a moment these are fakes but it needs to be said that seller is on the following list. http://augustuscoins.com/ed/fakesellers.html#U

He does however have a bad habit of processsing coins via electrolysis/acid or other method. He used to sell these destroyed coins on the regular, some of which were rare. More recently though he's gotten better about selling them as is. This statement only focuses on his Byzantine pieces though, can't speak for Romans. There is a habit of some sellers to mix in fakes with real, i dont know if this is done purposely or just due to lack of knowledge.

Coinmaster Posted September 21 · Member Share Posted September 21 Nice topic! Past year I bought via Delcampe this denarius from Nero: Front: IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P P : Head of Nero, laureate, right, with beard. Back: IVPPITER CVSTOS : Jupiter, bare to waist, cloak round lower limbs, seated, left on throne, holding thunderbolt in right hand and long sceptre in left. Rome, 67-68, RIC² 69. I bought the coin for only 40,- Euro + 2.50 postage. The coin was somehow broken in the past and - hardly visible - glued together. This decreases the value of the coin of course in a big way, but nevertheless I like the coin because of the overall quality and readable legends. In the future I'll buy a better Nero for sure, but for now I can enjoy looking at this bad emperor. 😉
The_Collector Posted September 28 · Member Author Share Posted September 28 Recently, I won a group lot of coins that I think adds to the theme of this post. You can get great coins and rare coins for under $100 especially if you keep your eyes peeled! For this lot I paid $68 for 6 coins which comes out to about $11 per coin (not terrible). But, I truly only bought it for one decently rare coin in the lot which based off of some vcoins prices covers the price of the lot and then some. Let’s see who can spot it first! After some research, it might be that there are four good coins in this lot (if any Postumus specialists could chime in).

You have 3 Postumus from Milan there (or "Aureolus")
