Newp: Claudius sestertius/Spes

I was pleased to unexpectedly win this one in the S-B auction.  Sorta kicking around the idea of doing the Twelve Caesars again; this time as a subset within my existing collection.

This is my first NGC ancient with the star ★ designation.

Cool coin! Though, the smoothing would drive me nuts, especially on the reverse.

Here's one that didn't have a chance to get smoothed, as I bought it almost straight from being unearthed:

Everything done right!

Typical Claudius portrait. Great details. Great centring. Fantastic colour. Simply a coin that catches the eye and is a pleasure to look at.

Congratulations on the Claudius.

I was looking for a coin in the 1941 Glendining Sydenham sale and came across your sestertius @lordmarcovan. Not sure if you already discovered this provenance or not. I know it wasn't mentioned in the Stacks listing. I posted it here in case you didn't already find it.

No- I did not know that- I have no knack for such research.  (And am quite impressed by those of you who do.)

Thank you!

BTW, I have completed the Twelve Caesars set now, and the last two additions (Julius Caesar and Vitellius) have finally arrived from Europe.

I bought a fancy wooden case for ‘em, and now all that’s left to do is to submit the last four raw coins to NGC.

Once that’s done, I’ll try to do a proper celebratory post and maybe make a YouTube video about the collection, eventually.
