antwerpen2306 Posted June 12 · Member Share Posted June 12 I have a fish amulet, I think it is a petrocephalus bane, comparing the form of the tail with the different hieroglyphs. There are 5 different hieroglyphs, representing a fish and this one resembles the most : 𓆟 : determinatief vis : rmw, fonetisch : bs. The material is silver, it measures 30 mm, 10 mm, 6 mm and weighs 3gr.I think it is to date in de second century.
Didier Attaix Posted June 13 · Supporter Author Share Posted June 13 Hi, Your amulet is a rare type of fish, I never came across. I would be pleased to include it in my blog. Your contribution will be acknowledged either nominatively or anonymously at your convenience. If you agree, please provide me with better pictures. Thank you for your attention, Didier
Nikodeimos Posted June 13 · Member Share Posted June 13 Very interesting! I have a transcription and translation laying about of a brief Ptolemaic royal decree forbidding fishing for three species of sacred fish, including the Oxyrhynchos. I really ought to make work of publishing it.
