seth77 Posted June 20 · Member Share Posted June 20 (edited) I have started the year with a small AE of Ilium for Augustus that I found so appealing that I started looking for similar. The Domitian Caesar of Sestus that I posted a couple of months ago inspired by an article of M. Fox is part of that direction that I took in my evolving interests. And here is another foray in the same vein: 1. An AE16mm 4.29g for Tiberius from Lampsacus in Mysia c. 15AD: Tiberius [CEBAC?]; laureate head right Λ[ΑΜΨΑΚΗ]; winged hippocamp, right, bunch of grapes below. RPC I 2279 2. An AE12mm 1.42g for Augustus from Abydus in Troas c. 0AD (likely very late 1st century BC to very early AD): Augustus CEBACTOC; bare head r with star in front of it A / B - [Y]; lyre RPC I 2287 Like the Ilium coin, these 2 are likely to climb my top 10 2024, mainly for the distinctive bust engravings showing a mixture of very late Hellenistic style and Republican style features. Specifically the Augustus from Abydus effigy is very close to his Western coinage. Edited June 20 by seth77

Finn235 Posted June 20 · Member Share Posted June 20 Cute little bronzes! I've kept a handful that I've pulled from random lots of coins over the years Augustus- Caria, Trapezopolis AE18 Caria, Antioch ad Maeandrum AE16 (this one is sometimes also attributed to Tiberius) Thrace, Sestos AE12 Tiberius - Ionia, Smyrna AE17 Lydia, Philadelphia AE15 (this one was "Tiberius Gemellus" when I bought it, and tragically has been reassigned as additional examples with "CEBACTOY" before the bust have surfaced since 2018)
