Al Kowsky Posted June 23 · Member Share Posted June 23 (edited) Recently an extremely rare American postage stamp set a world record for the highest price ever paid for a postage stamp at auction, $4,400,000 😮! 1868 1 cent Z grill postage stamp. This extremely rare gold aureus set a world record for a Roman coin sold at auction, $4,188,393. Given the choice, which of these two rarities would you rather have in your collection 🤔? ambr0zie Posted June 23 · Member Share Posted June 23 Difficult. Can I just get the money and I will seriously think about the correct choice? 3 2
Postvmvs Posted June 23 · Member Share Posted June 23 Interesting. I haven't looked at stamps in many years. I had thought the market for stamps softened.
Broucheion Posted June 23 · Member Share Posted June 23 Hi All, All things being equal, I want the coin but I’ll take the stamp since there is no chance it could be repossessed by a foreign government with more lawyers than I can hire. - Broucheion 4 1 2

Finn235 Posted June 23 · Member Share Posted June 23 Or, you know, I could buy this mansion in my town and still have enough left over for a new sport car. Really puts it into perspective how much $4M+ in disposable income is! 2 1

Postvmvs, I think the Covid 19 pandemic gave the stamp collectors a boost as it did for coin collectors 🤔.

Hrefn, A postage stamp over 100 years old must be as fragile as a butterfly 🤔. I'd be scared to death to own it 😱... 1

akeady Posted June 23 · Supporter Share Posted June 23 I'd say the coin except it's the one sold by Roma and later repatriated somewhere, so I wouldn't get to keep it! Aidan.
JayAg47 Posted June 24 · Member Share Posted June 24 I’d rather have the stamp than that cursed coin! 👹 But, I’d sell the stamp and will go on an ancient coin buying spree! 1
Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted June 24 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted June 24 The coin for sure. I'm sure the stamp could get dog-eared at a corner and lose $2 million in value. 1 1
