AncientCoinnoisseur Posted July 9 · Member Share Posted July 9 (edited) Just out of boredom, and inspired by someone else that did it, I have tried colorizing my Naples didrachm with the head of the siren Parthenope. Has anyone of you already tried colorizing their coins just for fun? How did they turn out? 🙂 EDIT: To clarify, it was done digitally. No coins were harmed in the making of this post! Edited July 10 by AncientCoinnoisseur Reassuring all of you :) 13 3 1 1

Orange Julius Posted July 10 · Member Share Posted July 10 That’s cool! I’d like to give it a try. I’m curious to know what app you used to colorize it!

Here are my own attempts with Alexander's tet and franc a'cheval. 6 1
Vel Saties Posted July 10 · Member Share Posted July 10 (edited) Sorry guys. I was an archaeologist and a scholar. And coins are archaeological objects. And they must be respected. I hope they were colored virtually on the computer if this is not the case although well made, for me it is an aberration. It's not like painting wargame soldiers. I know, my problem. But my culture and training cannot accept such violence perpetrated on objects that have survived thousands of years of history. Just my 5 cents Edited July 10 by Vel Saties

I’m tempted to do all my coins, both obverse and reverse! 1 hour ago, I_v_a_n said: Wow! The shades are perfectly chosen, it looks like a real antique fresco. Just my 5 cents Do not worry, it was of course all done digitally. I take extreme care in my coins and how I handle them, and I give them the proper attention and respect they deserve. We are only temporary custodians of a piece of history, and as such it is our duty to pass on this knowledge (and passion) to future generations. No coins were harmed in the making of this post 🙂 5

Adding color like that helps you realize just how much detail is in that engraving. 1

shanxi Posted July 13 · Supporter Share Posted July 13 (edited) You made me try it myself. It turned out that I'm definitely not a digital artist. but better than Chatgpt I asked chatgpt to colorize the portrait on this drachm, with a golden crown and black hair: This is the result: 😁 Edited July 13 by shanxi 8
Ordinary-Ride-1595 Posted July 16 · Member Share Posted July 16 Wanted to share this beautiful colorized image of Arethusa from my Kimon dekadrachm courtesy of AncientConnoisseur! The Aegean blue juxtaposed with Arethusa and the surrounding silver dolphins is a wonderfully thoughtful choice of color. Providing the colorized dekadrachm and a short video of my coin below: IMG_0847.mov 6
