I thought it was an unusually charming portrait, unlike the typical severe Domna portraits. Beethoven is one of my favorite composers, though my experience has mostly been limited to his nine symphonies, each of which I've listened to countless times.
Salomons Cat Posted July 26 · Member Share Posted July 26 (edited) You got one of the Soaemias with a nice bust, @rasiel. She's hard to find like this. I've tried many times to take better photos of Domna, Maesa no. 1 and Aquilia, even using the tips discussed here, but I still can't get it right. Anyway, here comes Julia Titi Domna Maesa (which portrait do you prefer? I can't decide 🧐) Soaemias Paula Aquilia Mamaea Edited July 26 by Salomons Cat 10

Valentinian Posted July 26 · Member Share Posted July 26 I quote Wikipedia under "Livia": "Livia Drusilla (30 January 59 BC – 28 September 29) was Roman empress from 27 BC to AD 14 as the wife of emperor Augustus. She was known as Julia Augusta after her formal adoption into the Julian family in AD 14." So, there is one more "Julia" we need to show.

And here are three different photos of my Tiberius dupondius showing Livia a/k/a Julia Augusta as Pietas, which I bought from @Julius Germanicus. 8

Wikipedia notes the full name Publia Licinia Julia Cornelia Salonina, but the Imperial coinage knows only variations on Cornelia Salonina. lrbguy Posted July 27 · Member Share Posted July 27 Thanks, Shanxi, that's what we needed to see. I particularly liked the third example, dark as it is, because you can see more of the name IOUL (in Greek of course).

Anaximander Posted July 28 · Member Share Posted July 28 (edited) So many Julias! Julia Augusta, aka Livia Drusilla (59 BC- 29 AD), wife of Augustus Caesar, as Pax. Julia Titi, daughter of Titus. Julia Domna, wife of Septimius Severus. Julia Maesa, grandmother of Elagabalus. Julia Mamaea, mother of Severus Alexander. Julia Soaemias, mother of Elagabalus. Julia Paula, first wife of Elagabalus. "Julia" Aquilia Severa, second and fourth wife of Elagabalus. Publia Licinia Julia Cornelia Salonina, wife of Gallienus. Hey, @Salomons Cat, there isn't enough room to swing a cat without hitting a Julia around here! Edited July 28 by Anaximander Added the snarky bit about swinging a cat. 4 1 1 1

I see the final M in PVDICITIAM, but the mashing of the letter tops in the exergual mark makes it look almost identical to that final "M." Not sure how CNG (or whoever) concluded it was the roman numeral VI for the 6th officina, but in that location what else could it be? A worthwhile piece!!
