Acquired this coin yesterday and am very pleased with it, if it is not too good to be true.

P. Sulpicius Galba
AR denarius 69BC
3.0g, 17mm Rome
Obv. S.C. head veiled and diademed of Vesta right
Rev. AE D / P GALB Emblems of the pontificate: knife, culullius, and axe. Crawford 406/1

The level of detail is spectacular and the edges show now signs of any seam.  Looked good and I trust the dealer to not knowingly sell a fake coin. But he buys and sells a lot around central Europe and probably does get fake coins, which I believe he sorts out.

Here are some forgeries pointed out on another platform with what looks like a die match, or close to it.  However, they are nearly as good as the coin I have, and the edges are all smooth rather than split, like mine.

It’s a very very bad sign when a coin is die-matching with specimens made from known modern dies…and often the most deceptive forgeries are pressed, with no flow lines, flat fields, and obviously no casting seams…

I agree, it looks pressed rather than struck...and the weight is way too low for a genuine coin.

It's not too good to be true as there are specimens in this condition. It is however a forgery. The dies are fake as are all coins from this die pair. I saw you posted this on Reddit and someone pointed to an "authentic" coin from CNG from this die pair. That coin is likewise inauthentic.

When I sold my first collection, I was quite shocked how many coins got refused by the auction house because they were fakes. They looked quite good. I learned one thing - only buy from dealers that give you a lifetime guarantee. I personally only have like 3 dealers (sounds funny) and the rest I buynfrom reputable auction houses.

but everyone had or has fakes. No need to worry, the first time hurts the most
